Oceana-The Tide/Virgin Black-Sombre Romantic

2 words: very odd. A different band on the forefront, Oceana seems to be post hardcore/emocore but are actually Experimental atmospheric sludge/metalcore. They infuse beautiful guitar riffs with technical drums. The vocals blast in from low to high, and then low and high paired, it's just delectable. At first when i listened to them a couple of months ago i thought i wouldn't entirely get into them; but when i listened to the album the whole thing grew onto me. An amazing sound for a just signed band. I definitely need to get a hold of the album to see what great artwork lies beyond the cover. Overall Rating: 9.7/10
Another odd band. Virgin Black is the kind of band that you don' t know what genre they are; but are amazingly good. They are considered Doom metal but are layered so heavily with gothic, death, dark, black, and symphonic elements; it takes an expert eye to decide what they are. I got the reissue with their EP Trance and it has the black cover (which i prefer over the green). This band is extremely unorthodox christians and write songs about God, darkness, life, hope, and so on. One song they have Rowan sing as if he were Judas Iscariot, the man that betrayed God. The greatest and oddest doom album, they blow November's Doom out of the water. Overall rating: 9.8/10
